New year

1st January is celebrated as the new year according to the English calendar. Public Holiday is declared on this day, new year starts with the holiday to set new goals for the new year.


Chinese New Year

This festival depends on the lunar calendar and it generally falls in the month of January or in the month on February.Usually, Chinatown is selected for the celebration of this festival and in filled with sales stores for new year gift and gift hampers. More...


Christian Festival-Good Friday

It comes in the month of April , on which gives long week end. Christian and Catholics commemorate the day where Jesus was crucified on the cross to exonerate the sins of all mankind.


Labor Day

Since 1960, this festival is celebrated every year on 1st May and is declared as Public holiday in Singapore.This day is celebrated in many other countries like Thailand,Maldives etc.


Vesak Day

A Buddhist festival vesak day,is celebrated depending on the lunar calender generally fall in the month of May.This day commemorates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha.


Hungry Ghost Festival

Islamic Calendar is followed as it is Muslim festival celebrated on 10th month following Islamic Calendar.Public Holiday is declared on the day.Muslims Pray early in the morning as well as in the evening in Mosques which is decorated with bright lights.It is the One of the most important festivals for Muslim Community.


Hari Raya Puasa

It is the end of Ramadan Public Holiday is declared on this day.In the evening family members along with their friend make evening prayer and than break fast of Ramadan by taking meal togather.


Deepavali Festival

This is Hindu festival generally falls in the month of October or November.This festival is also know as Festival of light,with the beliefs that as light overcomes darkness,good over comes evil.There is fascinating Indian history behind the festival being celebrated.So every Year,Hindu of India Celebrate this festival with great pleasure.


Thimithi

Thimit or firewalking ceremony is a Hindu festival originating in Tamil Nadu, South India that is celebrated during the month of Aipasi (or Aippasi) of the Tamil calendar.It falls in the Month of October or in November.


Christmas

A Christian Festival,this festival is celebrated on 25th December ever year even in Singapore as their are Chinese community in Singapore by decorating Christmas tree at some places.


Hari Raya Aidilfitri

A Muslim festival Hari raya Aidilfitri is celebrated as per Islamic Calender, After 30 days of fasting during Ramadan, the first three days of Hari Raya Aidilfitri are celebrated on a grand scale.


River Hong Bao Festival

A Chinese festival which term “Hong Bao”, meaning red packet, is a monetary gift often associated with Chinese New Year.Which symbolize good luck, what better way to usher in the Chinese New Year than at the River Hongbao.

It falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month as per lunar calendar and for Chinese it is Mid-Autumn festival and it fall around about in the month of August or in September. Moon-Cake Festival is also known as lantern festival for Chinese it is Mid-Autumn festival.

Moon cake is prepared at different bakeries and restaurants which is sold in all corners of Singapore. Along with it, mid autumn festival is also celebrated during these days which increases the glamour of the festivals.


Thus, increases tourist attraction, People enjoy visiting Singapore to attend this festival as it is celebrated with great pleasure not only Chinese people but whole Singapore is celebrating by playing games, performing on Chinese culture , lanterns making competition , having moon cake with Chinese tea under moon light, which being celebrated every corner of Singapore. There is believes behind celebrating this festival .


Celebration is based on three concept Gathering ,Thankgiving and Praying. An important part of the festival celebration is moon worship.Generally women worship moon and give offerings to the moon on this evening

Majority of People in Singapore follow Buddhism and Taoist,along With that Islam , Hindu , Catholic , other Christian is followed in minority. Buddhism and Taoist religion is almost same their is minor different in both religion. Buddha

In Singapore , Buddhism is followed in majority,their are many temples(wats) in Singapore.The Chinese Mahayana Buddhism is the most popular form in the country. However, Thailand Buddhism (Theravada)is also followed by Theravada, Vajrayana and other small schools.

People migrated from India follow Hinduism, built temples and celebrate their religious Festivals.Most of the Malaya people migrated form Malaysia follow Islam as the born with Muslim. The Chinese, migrated to Singapore, brought own their beliefs, culture and ancient traditions. The Chinese predominantly follow Buddhism, Taoism, Shenism and Christianity.

Singapore have the abundance of temples, mosques and churches that provide a tourism opportunity to visitors to have keen experience of the healthy religious history through interesting heritage trails that span the world’s great religions.This adds places to visit Singapore.

Culture of Singapore is Highly influenced by its neighbouring country Malaysia and some influence of India,Thailand and China.Singapore is a multicultural country(Island), and close to one-quarter of its population are expatriates or foreign workers from all over the world.Lifestyle is also highly influenced by it culture and tradition.The country was originally divided into several ethnic areas such as Kampong Glam, Little India, and Chinatown.But Now, these divisions no longer exist but traces of each individual culture remain in specific areas of Singapore.

Singapore was ruled by British so,footprint of British culture is clearly seen in Singapore specially after world War II.
