Dubai is a city in the United Arab Emirates, located within the emirate of the same name. The emirate of Dubai is located on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf and is one of the seven emirates that make up the country.

The UAE has a sub-tropical, arid climate. Rainfall is infrequent and irregular. Falling mainly in winter, it amounts to some 13 centimeters a year. Dubai is a unique destination that is both a dynamic business center and a tourist paradise, offering many attractions, shopping, and fine dining options. Dubai is divided into two parts - Deira on the Northern side which has a traditional culture in Dubai and Bur Dubai to the South which has a traditional culture in Dubai as well as the top tourist destination of Jumeirah. The Al Shindagha tunnel which runs under the creek connects the two halves of the city. The landmark developments are very timely to secure the emirate's continued future growth. Dubai has developed a reputation for its bold and innovative approach in the creation of many architectural wonders.

The United Arab Emirates is a part of the khaliji tradition, and is also known for Bedouin folk music.

Dubai is famously known as the entertainment capital of the Middle East which attracts many party lovers from all over the world, especially those who are wealthy enough to splash out on the most expensive bars and clubs in the city.

During celebrations singing and dancing also take place and many of the traditional songs and dances have survived to the present time. Yowalah is the traditional dance of the UAE. Young girls would dance by swinging their long black hair and swaying their bodies in time to the strong beat of the music. Men would re-enact battles fought or successful hunting expeditions, often symbolically using sticks, swords or rifles.
