India is multi-cultured country people living in different states follow different culture and religion so they have there own religious festivals apart from that all National festivals and even International Days are also celebrated with great pleasure through the country. As people following different religion live together so they celebrate festivals of different religion. Thus, India attracts tourist attention for it's culture and festivals. Many tourist even choose their favourite festival to visit India.

January - February

New Year Day – 1st January celebrated all Over India.

Guru Govind Singh Jayanti – 7th January celebrated in Punjab, Chandigarh, Harayana

Makar Sankaranti – 14th January celebrated in Gujarat, Mahashtra

Lohri –Makar Sankarati is known as Lohri in North India.

Pongal – Celebrated in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh,Assam, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Puducherry,Andaman and Nicobar

Elephant March – Celebrated in Kerala in the month of January

Vasant Panchami – Celebrated in Bangal, orrisa and Bihar for blessing of Lord Saraswati.

Kerela Village Fair – Celebrated in Kerela as it is Cultural festival celebrated with folk dance and Music of Kerala.

Bikaner Festival – This festival is celebrated in Rajasthan by decorating Camels.

Pattadakal Dance Festival – An Interesting dance festival celebrated in the state of Kaenataka.

Id-ul-Fitr – It is festival of Muslim Community celebrated in the month end of January.

Bhogi – celebrated in Andhra Pradesh on 13th January

Thaipusam – Thaipusam is a Hindu festival celebrates in the Tamil Nadu

Kavadi – Kavadi is the Dance performed in Tamil Nadu to please Tamil god of War

Id-e-Milad - It is the Muslim festival celebrated in the month of January in India.

Republic Day – This is National festival of India celebrated on 26th January since 1950.

Desert Festivals – Desert festival is celebrated in Rajasthan in the month end of January or in the First half month of February for three days.

Cattle Fair – This festival is celebrated in Rajasthan in the month of January or February by trading of cattle.

Thiruvalluvar Day / Kanum Pongal - This festival is celebrated in Tamil dedicated to lord Sun.

Maha Shivratri – It is religious festival of Hindu, celebrated by keeping fast dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Vasant Panchami – Celebrated in an honor of Goddess Saraswati.

International Yoga Festival – Celebrated in Uttar Pradesh in the month of February by practicing Yoga and Meditation.

Surajkund Crafts Mela – It is 15 days festival celebrated in Haryana to demonstrate art and craft from all over the India.

Taj Mahotsav – Celebrated in Uttar Pradesh, recreating the age of Shah Jahan by dance and drama.


February - March

Holi – It is much popular Hindu festival celebrating with Colors in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh

Shigmo – Festival of Konkani Hindu, celebrate in Goa.

Vasant Navratri – Hindu Festival celebrated in majority of Parts of India.

Rama Navami – Rama Navami is celebration of Birth of Lord Rama

National Safety Day – Celebrated on 4th March across the Country.

International Women’s Day – Celebrated on 8th March in an honor of Women.

Dandi March Day – 12th March is celebrated as Dandi March day in India.

World Forestry Day – 21st March is celebrated as Forestry day in the country.

World Water Day - 22nd March is Celebrated as World Water day.

Gudi Padwa – New year day for Marathi and Konkanis celebrated on first day of Chaitra Month.

Ugadi – New year for Kannadigas and Telugus celebrated on the same day as Gudi padwa.

Khajuraho Dance Festival – It is the festival celebrated by the people of Madhya Pradesh by performing Classical Dance.

Internaitonal Spice – Celebrate in Kerala.

Vishu – 2 days Hindu festival celebrated in Kerala.

Tamil New Year – Celebrate among Tamil people it falls in the month of April.

Hanuman Jayanti – Hanuman Jayanti is celebration of birth of Hanuman.

Bihu - Bihu is Assamese New Year celebrated in Assam and near by places.

Good Friday – It is festival of Christians celebrated on Friday of April every year.

Baisakhi – Punjabi New Year celebrated in Punjab, Celebrated with joyous music and Dance.

Id-ul-fitr or Ramazan Id – It is Festival of Muslim Community, a day of feasting making end of Ramdan.


May - June

May Day - 1st May is celebrated as International Workers' day in India even in many country International Workers' day in famous as "May day".

Buddha Purnima – Celebration on Buddha’s birth.


June – July

Rath yatra – Celebrated in Orissa and many more part of country.

Hemis Festival – It is the festival of people living in Jammu & Kashmir.

International Mango Festival - Celebrates in Uttar Pradesh exhibiting best Quality Indian Mangoes.

Sitsalsasthi – Sitsalsasthi is the celebration of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati’s marriage

Eid-Ul-Fitr - Eid-Ul-Fitr is the Muslim Festival, mean braking of fast celebrated not only in India but all over the World on 29th neight of Ramadan.

Raja Parba - It is 4 days long festival celebrated in Orissa to welcome inaugurates and welcomes the agricultural year all over Orissa it is also known as Mithuna Sankranti.

Guru Purnima - Guru purnima is the festival of Hindu and Buddhist, a devotional worship of the Teacher (GURU).In Hindu Guru is treated as God himself.

August - September

Raksha Bandhan - It is festival of Hindu, for brother and Sister. On this day women ties Rakhi on the wrist of her brother to remind him to protect her if any need arise. There is fascinating Story behind Raksha bandhan.

Independence Day - 15th August is celebrated as Independence Day in India since year 1947 as India got Independence from British rule on the day.

Onam – Oman is the festival for the people living in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. This festival is famous for the ‘Snake Boat Races’, an event held in Kerala to celebrate this festival.

Krishna Janmamshtami - A Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Krishna. It is celebrated though out the country .Devotees of Lord Krishna celebrated this festivals by fasting and praying.

Gowri Habba - Gowri Habba is celebrated in Karnataka,Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh it is the festival for newly wed couples.

Nuakhai - This festival is celebrated in Orissa to welcome new rice of the year.

Ganesh Chaturthi - A Hindu festival celebrated for the arrival of lord Ganesha. Idol of Ganesh is bought on this day and worshiped for ten days and then is being immersed in a river or sea.

Bonalu - Bonalu is the festival celebrated in Hydrabad, Andhra Pradesh and other parts of South India. Goddess MahaKali is Worshipped.

September - October

Navratri - Navratri is the Hindu festival of nine Nights celebrated by performing dance on traditional music and worshiping the forms of Shakti.

Dussehra/VijayaDashmi - Dussehra is tenth day of Navratri on this day Lord Rama Killed Ravana i.e. Victory of good over evil.

Durga pooja - A very famous festival for the people of Bengal. This festival is celebrated by worshipping goddess Durga by performing Pooja.

Bathukamma or Panduga- It is unique festival celebrated in Andhra Pradesh during Navratri by Women in the honour of Goddess Gouri.

Gandhi Jayanti - 2nd October is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti a birth date of Gandhiji, father of the nation,Public Holiday is declared throughout the nation on this day.


October - November

Diwali or Deepawali - Diwali is the festival of Light as Lord Rama, goddess Sita returned to the kingdom of Ayodhya after 14 years of exile.

New Year – Next day of Diwali is celebrated as New year in Hindu community. New Year is celebrate with great pleasure throughout the country.

Bhai Dooj - Second day of New year is Bhai dooj a festival for brother and sister similar to Raksha Bandhan.

Gurupurab - Gurupurab id the festival of Sikh it falls in the month of November.

Kartik Poornima/Dev Diwali – It is celebrated on Full moon day of Kartik .It is unique festival celebrated in Varansi. It also coincide with Jain festival of Light.

Chhath - Celebrated in Bihar and Terai dedicated to sun god.


November - December

Muharram - Muharram is the first month of Islamic Calender. Muslim community in India celebrates with great pleasure.

Chrishmas Day -25th December is celebrated as Chrishmas by decorating Xmas tree and sharing gifts as it is annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ
